Recipients receive $3,000 and a beautifully designed award, as well as extensive attention to their work. Previous winners of the Freedom Plow Award for Poetry & Activism are ELIZA GRISWOLD, who received the inaugural award in 2013, for her work collecting and introducing the folk poems of Afghan women to America; and MARK NOWAK, in 2015, for his work facilitating poetry dialogues among workers around the world.

If you would like, we invite you to nominate up to three separate poets or poetry collectives for the award; we are open to self-nominations. Nominations may be made via Submittable. Completed nominations should be submitted no later than 12 AM EST on December 18, 2016.

We will celebrate the winner and finalists of the Freedom Plow Award and their achievements at a gala event and reading at the Arts Club of Washington, D. C. at 6:30 pm on the evening of April 6, 2017.
