Jessica Kingsley Publishers are actively commissioning books for both professionals working with transgender and gender non-conforming people as well as books for trans and gender non-conforming persons themselves.

To give you a bit of background, Jessica Kingsley Publishers publish accessible, practical books for professionals/practitioners and the general reader that make a difference. We are renowned for publishing in areas such as autism, mental health, disability, social work, counselling and adoption and we believe there is a real need for books giving clear and positive advice for professionals working with trans people to help them improve their professional skills and daily practice as well as for trans people themselves who might need support. We’ve already signed a couple of titles on topics such as raising trans children, counselling transgender youth and a guide for partners of trans people as well as books for children about gender identity and expression.

We are looking to commission accessible books of around 20’000 – 60’000 words including tips, scenarios, case studies, questions for reflection, checklists as needed. We are very open to ideas and we would be keen to discuss any potential book projects. Our Book Proposal form can be downloaded here:

If you would like to discuss project please contact Andrew James, Senior Commissioning Editor:
