One Response to “Call for Submissions: The Steven Petrow LGBTQ Fellowship”

I want to apply for 2 or 3 weeks of residency as a writer of creative non-fiction. (I am working on a book). I am a queer man who has created films and videos most of my life. In the 90’s I made high-end gay porn to fund the AIDS activist and queer ethnographic video I created, now housed in the archives of the NY Public Library. (Selections have been shown at the Guggenheim museum). I am the only fellow of the American film Institute ever inducted into the Gay Porn Hall of Fame (2009). I have lived or worked on every continent except Antartica. My publishing history includes most of the queer classic magazines, Out, Advocate, Frontiers, Genre and am also widely published as an art critic. I am writing about my life as a kind of gay Forrest Gump. I’ve blithely lived in one queer seminal art scene ofter another (The Castro in the early ’70s, the East Village in the late ’70s, Rome, Italy, South Miami Beach, and West Hollywood). Along the way, I’ve had the most uniquely queer adventures and I have bizarre, funny and bittersweet stories to tell. My question is can you give me some guidelines as to what narrative non-fiction work I should submit and the length of the works you are looking for. Can I submit both published and unpublished work? Would you like to see samples of the book I am working on?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Kindest regards,
    Phil Tarley
