A Day Without Art Online Journal, 30th Anniversary Special Edition, invites you to submit poetry, flash fiction, essay, memoir and visual art which remembers a loved one who has died or is infected with AIDS/HIV, calls for or describes social action, or in some way commemorates this day.

Submission Guidelines

  1. We accept the following: Poetry: Maximum 3 poems; Flash Fiction: Maximum 450 words; Essay: Maximum 1000 words; Memoir: Maximum 1000 words; Visual Art: 3 pieces. We accept email submissions only to: [email protected] You may submit in up to 3 categories.
  2. When sending an e-mail, put adaywithoutart,19,your name and category of work on the subject line (example: adaywithoutart, 19, John Doe, poetry). This is important.  If you do not put this information in the subject line, your email will automatically go into trash.
  3. In the body of your email, place your name, postal address, email address, bio and the title of your work at the top, followed by your work in Rich Text Format (RTF) pasted into the body of the email. Note: Please do not send your work as an attachment. Do not send your work in HTML or Word format. If you send your work in HTML format or as a Word attachment, it will be discarded.
  4. We accept simultaneous submissions. However, if your work is accepted by another publication, please notify us immediately. Previously published work is accepted for submission.
  5. Writers receive notification of acceptance/rejection via an email form letter within three (3) weeks after the close of submissions. We cannot provide personal responses or critiques for rejected work. We do not return submissions.
  6. Payment: A Day Without Art cannot offer payment for accepted submissions. A publication party and reading for this issue on Sunday, December 1 in the SF Bay Area. Writers are urged to attend and read their work.
  7. Rights: First rights and permission to archive. Authors retain the copyright to their material. If any work is reprinted in another publication, the author receives 100 percent of any fee.

    Thank you for publishing our call for submissions! However, there is an error I must ask you to correct! It is our error. The email address for submissions is: [email protected]
    It needs to be corrected in 2 places: the last line under “Call for Submissions” and also in #1 under “Submission Guidelines. I apologize for making this mistake and I beg you to correct it! THANKS
