Breaking Through: LGBT Poets Respond to Violence Against LGBT People
Editor: Shane Allison
Deadline: August 1, 2015
Rights: non-exclusive right to publish the poem in this anthology in print, eBook and audiobook form. Authors will retain copyright to their stories.
I thought about the idea of this anthology when I began gathering poems about growing up black and gay in the south for a new collection. A majority of those poems consist of my experiences of being a victim of bullying and ridicule. I knew I was not alone, that there are poets and writers with stories of their own to share. I am in search of poetry that answers the call on the theme of violence in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Poems on not only physical violence, but the mental, emotional and psychological violence we endure in our lives.
Give me your best work I’ll consider up to five poems. One poem per page, per author. No simultaneous submissions. I’ll consider reprints, preferably, but hope to be seeing more new, unpublished work.
I want a variety of themes, voices, and tone. A diversity of ages, ethnicities, cultures, and physical attributes and abilities is welcome.
The central figures must be LGBT.
I love fiction and non –fiction as much as the next gay editor, but this will be a poetry only anthology.
Send your submission as an attachment in .doc, .docx. or .rtf format, Times New Roman black font, with name, email and mailing address on the first page of each poem, to firstname.lastname@example.org. Queries can go to that address as well.
