Lambda Literary Foundation Announces LGBT Professionals in Publishing

Since our beginning in 1989, Lambda Literary Foundation’s primary mission has been to identify and promote the best in LGBT literature. Today, we accomplish this through many of our programs such as the Lambda Literary AwardsLambda Literary ReviewLLF Book Clubs, and our LGBT Writers in School Program.

In 2007, we expanded our focus by adding a vital teaching arm to our work through the Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBT Voices. This annual retreat nurtures promising writers through a residency that offers intensive and sophisticated instruction to selected writers over a carefully designed one-week period.

Last October, we further expanded our focus by launching LGBT Professionals in Publishing. These informal networking events fill a critical void in the publishing industry by providing opportunities for literary agents, editors, cover designers, publicists, publishers, salespeople, and other professionals in the publishing world to get together in an informal setting. Our hope is that LGBT Professionals in Publishing will strengthen the LGBT network in the publishing community.

The co-hosts for LGBT Professionals in Publishing are Don Weise, LLF President Emeritus, and Liz Scheier who has been involved with the Lambda Literary Awards for several years both as a host committee member and as a presenter. Two networking events for this new group have been held to date in New York City-with an average attendance of 35-and the next event will be on Monday, February 10th.
