The West Hollywood Book Fair is home to 12 stages+ the writing room+ 125 exhibitors. The Book Fair and all Book Fair events are free!
Everybody loves a fair! On Sunday, October 2, 2011, from 10am-6pm, West Hollywood will hold its 10th Annual Book Fair.
Seeing that it is West Hollywood, there will be a plethora of LGBTQ panels and readings taking place during the day.
Below is a full schedule of all the LGBTQ events taking place during the day:

UNNATURAL! TRUTH, WHIMSY, PERVERSION AND THE QUEER MEMOIR
Readings by Anna Joy Springer and Matias Viegener, followed by a short conversation with Les Figues Press publisher Teresa Carmody. What makes a memoir queer? The writer or the truth?
Both writers have new books which explore issues of biography, sexuality and community. Springer’s “The Vicious Red Relic, Love” focuses primarily on Springer’s years in the San Francisco Bay Area punk scene when she sang with Blatz, The Gr’ups, and Cypher in the Snow, while working in the sex trade, studying literature and trying to define her sexual identity. Matias Viegener, writer and member of the art collective Fallen Fruit, wrote “2500 Random Things About Me Too” as a series of Facebook posts. The book plays with notions of memoir while conjuring iconic gay avant-garde texts, such as “Joe Brainard’s I Remember.”

Meredith Baxter, beloved and iconic television actress, shares her personal story as revealed in the recent acclaimed memoir “Untied: A Memoir of Family, Fame and Floundering”. Join this fascinating woman to hear about her incredible life in front of and behind the camera.

“JUST BE YOURSELF” a Reading by Teen Poet Elliott Sitz
Elliott Sitz read his poem, “Just Be Yourself,” on stage in front of his entire middle school when he was 13 years old. The poem is about the courage it takes to be a gay youth in a homophobic culture, and reading the poem was Elliott’s way of coming out to his school. In June of this year Elliott won the creative writing contest for the first LGBT Heritage Month celebration proclaimed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Elliott once again read “Just Be Yourself” on stage. Elliott is 16 and attends Downtown Magnets High School.

IAN MACKINNON’S GAY HIST-ORGY!
With the aid of time traveling hot pants, performance artist activist Ian MacKinnon cruises a plethora of Gay historical figures in his multi-media one-man show that covers thousands of years of homo-history with information, fabulousness, and fun.
Featuring hot histo-graphic encounters with Gay icons: Plato, Rumi, Abraham Lincoln, Walt Whitman, Herman Melville, Fredrick the Great, Edward Carpenter, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, Harry Hay, Allen Ginsberg, and more!

THE INFECTION MONOLOGUES: ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE: A READING

Created by Eric Rofes and written by Eric Rofes and Alex Garner “The Infection Monologues” explores the experiences of five gay men who have recently tested positive for HIV. These diverse men’s journeys begin with testing positive and then go on to reflect on a life before HIV and move on to coming to terms with HIV in our contemporary world. With wit and humor they explore the perilous issues of stigma and shame, dating and disclosure and the challenge of maintaining a healthy sexuality. Their experiences are funny, thoughtful, poignant and provocative. These stories challenge the way we think about what it means to be HIV positive in the modern world in which we now live.
