Fire & Ink  is recognized as the most influential supporter and advocate for GLBT writers of African descent. We are devoted to increasing the understanding, visibility and awareness of the works of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender writers of African descent and heritage.  Fire & Ink has sponsored three national writers festivals (2002, 2005, 2009); advocated for increased inclusion of such GLBT works in libraries, academic curricula and bookstores; and has assisted the International Federation of Black Prides with organizing literary events at various prides throughout the United States.
