Lambda Literary Wins $50,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

Lambda Literary is thrilled to share that it has been awarded a $50,000 Art Works grant in the literature category from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This grant will support general operating costs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lambda Literary’s work is among the more than 1,100 projects across America totaling nearly $27 million that were selected during this second round of Grants for Arts Projects fiscal year 2021 funding.

“As the country and the arts sector begin to imagine returning to a post-pandemic world, the National Endowment for the Arts is proud to announce funding that will help arts organizations like Lambda Literary reengage fully with audiences,” said NEA Acting Chairman Ann Eilers. “Although the arts have sustained many during the pandemic, the chance to gather with one another and share arts experiences is its own necessity and pleasure.”

“We are grateful for the generous support from the NEA, which will allow us to continue connecting readers with authentic and powerful LGBTQ storytellers,” said Sue Landers, executive director of Lambda Literary. “For more than 30 years, Lambda Literary has boldly championed LGBTQ literature in a world where queer interests and stories have often been maligned and marginalized. These funds will enable us to continue our work preserving LGBTQ literary history, supporting our community’s writers, and nurturing queer literature’s future.”
