New in June: Cherrie Moraga, Bob Smith, and Dennis Cooper

Author: Antonio Gonzalez Cerna

June 6, 2011

  • Celebrate Pride with a sexy summer read including new fiction from Bob Smith, Todd Gregory, Dennis Cooper, and Joan Opyr. Quarantine, one of our “highly-anticipated” books of the year by Rahul Mehta –included in the Lambda Literary Awards gift bags — debuts this month.
  • Richard Dellamora’s biography of Radclyffe Hall promises an unputdownable read of one of queer literature’s most widely read authors; while Bronson Lemer adds to the expanding list of LGBT memoirs with military themes.
  • This month there are four Latino-themed books — three of them from Duke University Press —Tacit Subjects,  a study of Dominican immigrant same-sex desire; Cherrie Moraga’s new collection, A Xicana Codex of Changing Consciousness; and Gay Latino Studies, an anthology of essays that focus on the experience of gay Latino men in the US. The fourth, Ambientes, is also an anthology edited by Lazaro Lima and Felice Picano from University of Wisconsin Press.
  • On a timely note, Cheyenne Publishing will release Awake a young adult anthology that includes stories from Nancy Garden, Robin Reardon, Jordan Taylor and Brian Katcher. Remarkably, all net publisher proceeds from the sale of Awake benefit The Trevor Project — the nation’s leading organization dedicated to ending suicide among LGBTQ youth.
