Bayou Magazine is a biannual literary magazine printed by UNO Press, publishing fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and the winner of the Tennessee Williams One Act Play Contest winner. Our mission, to present exceptional, original writing by both established and emerging writers, is never more evident than in our Fiction and Poetry Contests , where submissions are blind, and prose and verse speak for themselves.

Four time novelist and writer of collections of fiction, nonfiction and children stories, our 2013 James Knudsen Prize for Fiction judge, Lucy Jane Bledsoe , has been a finalist for the Ferro-Grumley LGBT Fiction Award, the Lambda Literary Lesbian Fiction Award, and the ForeWord Book of the Year, LGBT Fiction. Readers may find our 2013 Kay Murphy Prize in Poetry judge, Lara Glenum exploration the relationship between pop culture and gender provocative, but more importantly, her verse never fails to provoke an aesthetic experience in the reader.

Both contests are open until December 31st. Winners receive $500 and publication in Bayou Magazine.

There is a reading fee of $15 that includes a copy of the contest issue for all submitters.
