Deadline: March 2011. Groundbreaking new book seeks your participation! A new anthology, to be edited by Rachel Pepper (co-author of The Transgender Child) is looking for mothers of transgender, transsexual, transitioning, and gender variant adult and youth to tell their story about their child’s transition.
This collection will be published by Cleis Press in the summer of 2012. Mothers of all ages, ethnicities, races, socio-economic classes, sexual orientations, and geographic locations (including outside the US) are actively being sought for inclusion.
This book will be an invaluable resource to parents who are coming to terms with their child’s gender transition, emphasizing a diversity of opinions and feeling, including both acceptance and non-acceptance. Author is currently seeking participants who will either write personal essays in the 500-1500 word range (these will be edited by the author, so perfect prose or a writing history is NOT a prerequisite for participation) and mothers willing to be personally interviewed via phone, Skype, or recorded in person. Author plans trips to East Coast and Southern states in upcoming months to conduct personal interviews.
No financial compensation is available for participation; however, contributors whose essays or interviews make the final print edition will receive one free copy of the book. Contributors may remain anonymous or use their real names in the publication.
If you are interested in being part of this exciting project or know someone who might be interested please contact the author at firstname.lastname@example.org, putting “mother’s book project” in the subject line. All correspondence will be treated confidentially by author. Please contact the author prior to submission of any materials.
Deadline for written submissions is February 2011, interviews must be completed by March 2011. All inquiries and suggestions should be sent to author at e-mail above.
