Queer on the Margins: An Anthology of Short Stories for Young Adults

Posted on 16. Mar, 2011 by in Calls for Submissions

I am calling for submission for an anthology of short stories (between 4,000 and 10,000 words) centering on teenage or young adult protagonists of color and queer sexualities.

Too long have stories of gays, lesbians, and transsexuals been focusing on white protagonists in white families in middle-class America.

I am hoping to bring together approximately 10-15 stories about the experiences of queer, non-white protagonists in an attempt to highlight the experiences of marginalized young people in North America.

Publisher: A publisher has expressed interest and will review the project once more submissions have been acquired.

Rate of pay: As I have not yet secured a publisher, I am still in the process of determining financial compensation. I am hoping to provide either an honorarium or a certain percentage of proceeds from sales. I cannot guarantee a per-word payment for the reasons previously stated. All authors will be given two copies of the anthology.

Deadline: June 30, 2011

Send submissions to Rob Bittner: queer.anthology@yahoo.com

Any more updates on this submission in regards to publisher and payment/honorarium?

There have been no updates as of yet. The collection is currently being reviewed by a publisher, but no word has been sent my way to relay an acceptance or any terms of payment.
