2007 Retreat for LGBTQ Writers

MISSION
Lambda Literary Foundation is launching the first program of its kind ever offered to LGBTQ writers: a one-week intensive immersion in fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. An unparalleled opportunity to learn from the very best writers in the LGBT community, the Lambda Literary Foundation Writers Retreat is open to emerging LGBT writers of any age.

To insure the quality of the Lambda Literary Foundation Writers Retreat, applicants will be screened. Space is limited to 21 students. Some publication history desirable but not required. Ability to pay fees will in no way be part of the selection process. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications and scholarship requests postmarked by or before April 15, 2007.

Dorothy Allison, Katherine V. Forrest, Eloise Klein Healy, Fenton Johnson; Guest faculty: Bernard Cooper, Michael Nava, and John Rechy, among others.

Tuition ($800)
Tuition covers workshops with faculty, all readings, lectures, and presentations by guest faculty.

Room & Board ($700)   
Housing and meals begin with dinner on Sunday, August 5, and conclude after breakfast on Sunday, August 12. Prices include three meals per day and a snack. Meals will be kosher, and we will make every effort to accommodate any dietary restrictions. Receptions after evening events will be complimentary and will include non-alcoholic beverages.

Rooms are double occupancy with private bath. Single rooms are available on a limited basis and at additional expense ($200). Scholarship recipients will have a roommate.

Location: Founded in 1947, the University of Judaism (UJ) offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, the only independent rabbinical school west of the Mississippi. The Writers Retreat will take place in UJ’s state of the art conference center and dormitories.  The University of Judaism is a smoke-free environment. Wireless Internet Connection throughout dormitories. Complete housing details will be provided upon acceptance.

Transportation:  Unless there are extraordinary circumstances, you will be expected to provide your own transportation to the University of Judaism. If possible, Lambda Literary will organize a shuttle van for those who arrive at the Los Angeles airport, on Sunday, August 5 and Sunday, August 12. Free parking is available.
