2 Canadians win Lambda Literary Awards for best LGBTQ+ writing
Two Canadian writers, Danny Ramadan and Jeff Ho were among the winners of the 2023 Lambda Literary Awards. The prizes, which recognize the best in queer writing across 25 categories including poetry, fiction, romance and more, were given out at a ceremony in New York.
Lambda Literary Awards Return In Person to Much Fanfare
After years of organizational transition, the 35th Annual Lambda Literary Awards, or Lammys, held on June 9, served as a homecoming of sorts for Lambda Literary. The event brought many of the organization’s authors, writers, editors, and supporters back together again after the live awards ceremony was put on pause in 2020.

The 2023 Lambda Literary Award winners have been announced! This year’s winners were selected by a panel of over 60 judges from the literary world and from more than 1,300 book submissions from over 300 publishers. Now in its 35th year, the Lambda Literary Award is considered one of the most prestigious awards in LGBTQ publishing.
Author Chuck Forester Donates $250K to Lambda Literary
Amid increased book bans and anti-trans legislation, Lambda Literary has announced a $250,000 gift from author and philanthropist Chuck Forester in support of the organization’s capacity to advocate for LGBTQ writers and books. In a April 11 press release, Lambda acknowledged Forester as a “near and dear” friend to the organization and “fervent champion” of its mission.
LGBTQ Writers Find Their Voice at Lambda Literary Retreat
Stephen Patrick Bell added, “What’s funny about all of these thoughts is how the Lambda Literary Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices, in centering queerness, makes queerness totally irrelevant. I was in community with talented writers who were so different from me in so many ways but at no point was my personhood up for debate, my experiences weren’t questioned. My art was all I brought to the table and that is what we discussed. We did the work.”
