Time flies when you’re having fun, and I can honestly say that this year has been the most exciting year of my editorial career. Looking back at 2010, we’ve accomplished everything we set out to do.
LambdaLiterary.org has featured some of the brightest LGBT literary voices, including Armistead Maupin, Stephen McCauley, T Cooper, Minal Hajratwala, Justin Spring, Sarah Waters, Josh Kilmer-Purcell, Sarah Schulman, Michelle Cliff, Staceyann Chin and Monique Truong, among others.
By the end of the month, we will have reviewed 151 books and mentioned 65 others in our columns and features. We will have interviewed a little over 40 authors and connected with over 2,200 fans on Facebook.
With 2011 ahead, my goal is to review even more books—that goal being 220 books—10 for each of the Awards categories. I hope to increase our coverage of Lesbian Romance, Poetry and Mystery, along with more coverage of trans and bi literature.
I’m indebted to my director and mentor, Tony Valenzuela, and to Nicola Griffith for pushing me and my small edit team to achieve more than we imagined.
I’m grateful for our writers. Without our dedicated editorial team, LambdaLiterary.org would not be able to reach 100,000 visitors every month.
Our esteemed editors, columnists, reviewers and essayists offer the highest quality of writing, with the smartest (and sometimes toughest) critique and analysis. You are my mentors.
163 individuals have contributed to LambdaLiterary.org over this past year. Of that team, I’d be remiss to mention a few of our most active writers.
Thank you, June Thomas, Dick Smart, Alan Chin, David Groff, Cathy Camper, Brent Calderwood, Chuck Forester, Christopher Verleger, Nathan Tipton, Sinclair Sexsmith, Gena Hymowech, Jameson Currier, Jihii Jolly, Jason Schneiderman, Courtney Gillette, Dan Cullinane, Gabriel Bloomfield, Sean Hetherington, TS Ferguson, Pamela Bigelow, Julie R. Enszer, Rachel Wexelbaum, Meredith Schwartz, Nels P. Highberg, Tom Eubanks, Thom Nickels, Sheela Lambert, Susan Stinson, Reginald Harris, Rigoberto Gonzalez, John Morgan Wilson, Victoria Brownworth and Wayne Gunn—who has contributed a whopping 34 book reviews this year.
Last but not least, I must thank my edit team: Gabrielle Harbowy, Karen Schechner, Desiree Diaz and Jameson Fitzpatrick. Your contributions are invaluable. I hope that one day I’m able to repay you for all your hard work and insight.
