Many of you have helped Lambda Literary Foundation(LLF) make a difference this past year by supporting us financially, volunteering at one of our many programs, and/or contributing book reviews and other content to theLambda Literary Review. As we conclude our 25thanniversary, we would like to say Thank You.

With your help, we continue to develop as an organization and are planning to build on our past successes. Look at some of the things we are planning:

  • Continue to expand our long history of recognizing LGBT literary pioneers. LLF also recognizes exceptional writers through our Board of Trustee and our Bridge Builder Awards.
  • Increase the number of graduates from our annual Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBT Voices. Since its inception in 2007, the Retreat has graduated over 240 Lambda Fellows in Fiction, Genre Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry. In 2014 the Retreat will expand by allowing Lambda Fellows (Retreat graduates) to return to the week-long residency to use the time to write without having to attend a formal workshop.
  • Increase the visibility of LGBT literature that captures the lives of people of color, Trans, and Bisexual communities since stories involving these communities are still too hard to find. LLF recognizes the additional challenges our writers face when creating literature that tackles race, class and gender in addition to sexual orientation.
  • Increase the number of LGBT Writers in Schools events that we have hosted throughout the nation in which to discuss queer literature openly with young people and encourage diversity and respect not only in the students’ reading and writing lives, but also in society at large.
  • Continue to be the premiere organization to provide you with LGBT book reviews, interviews and conversations. This year we reviewed 208 published books- the most of any other LGBT source-and provided 48 high profile interviews and conversations on our online web magazine, Lambda Literary Review.
  • Further expand participation in our annual Lambda Literary Awards providing visibility and recognition of the best in LGBT literature. Last year, we presented awards for books published in 2012 and also honored Augusten Burroughs, John Irving, and Cherrie Moraga; over 500 attended the event at the Great Hall at Cooper Union in New York City.
  • Look for new e-book projects coming out of LLF. Last year we published 25 for 25: An Anthology of Works by 25 Outstanding Contemporary LGBT Authors and Those They Inspired. The anthology included works by some of our community’s leading authors with introductions by emerging writers they’ve influenced.
  • Increase our visibility and the number of major media outlets, networks, and online sites where we appeared.

Thank you for helping LLF nurture, celebrate, and promote LGBT literature by spreading the word about our many programs and through your generous financial support. You are helping us ensure that the stories of our lives are written, supported, and archived for future generations, especially in this transitory time.
