On October 5, Film Buff Films is releasing director Roberto Faenza’s film adaptation of Peter Cameron’s acclaimed novel Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You. The movie is filled with an all-star cast that includes Marcia Gay Harden, Ellen Burstyn, Lucy Liu, and Toby Regbo.
From the film’s Facebook page,
Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You, based on the best selling novel by Peter Cameron, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You is a funny and heartfelt film about a vulnerable yet precocious teenager named James (played by extraordinary newcomer, Toby Regbo) with a deep appreciation for the world and no idea how to live in it. Living in New York City, the child of divorced parents (Marcia Gay Harden and Peter Gallagher) who may be better served examining their own lives, James rejects all the assumptions that govern the adult world around him, including the expectation that he will go college in the Fall.
Grappling with his future, his sexuality, and his screwed up family, including his 20 year-old memoir-writing sister (Deborah Ann Woll), James looks for solace in his books, the untraditional ways of his eccentric grandmother (Ellen Burstyn) and the wisdom gained while running with his therapist (Lucy Liu).
