Long before “Marley and Me” there was J.R Ackerley’s “My Dog Tulip” — a touching memoir about a middle-aged gay man and his dog. First published in 1956, “My Dog Tulip” is now an animated feature film directed and drawn by Paul and Sandra Fierlinger starring Christopher Plummer, Lynn Redgrave, and Isabella Rosselini. It’s perhaps the cutest film you’ll see all year.

“My Dog Tulip” will be released September 1, 2010 at New York’s Film Forum followed by a limited release. As part of the celebration, NYRB will also release Ackerley’s classic book as a movie tie-in in late August. [via IndieWire]
