The National Leather Association: International (NLA-I), announced the winners of its annual awards for excellence in SM/leather/fetish writing earlier this spring. The winners and honorable mentions include a few friends of Lambda including Cecilia Tan and Jeff Mann, among others.

Cynthia Slater Non-fiction Article Award

  • Winner: Gloria Brame, “Transformation and Transcendence in BDSM”
  • Honorable Mention: Jeff Mann’s “How to be a Country Leather Bear,” by Jeff Mann, from Second Person Queer: Who You Are (So Far) edited by Richard Labonté and Lawrence Schimel (Arsenal Pulp Press)

Geoff Mains Non-fiction Book Award

  • Winner:  Ask the Man Who Owns Him: The Real Lives of Gay Masters and slaves, by David Stein (Perfectbound Press)
  • Honorable Mention: Two Knotty Boys Back on the Ropes by The Two Knotty Boys (Green Candy)

Pauline Reage Novel Award

  • Winner:  Submission Times Two by Claire Thompson (Romance Unbound)
  • Honorable Mention: Hard Fall by James Buchanan (MLR Press)

Anthology Award

  • Winner: Like a Thorn: An Anthology of BDSM Fairy Tales editors Cecilia Tan and Sarah Desautels (Circlet Press)
  • Honorable Mention: Bottoms Up: Spanking Good Stories by Rachel Kramer Bussel (Cleis Press)

John Preston Short Fiction Award

  • Winner: “The Last Mistress of the Chatelaine,” by Kieran Wyn Dewhurst, which appeared, Like a Thorn: An Anthology of BDSM Fairy Tales Edited by Cecilia Tan and Sarah Desautels (Circlet Press)
  • Honorable Mention: “Goodbye Saigon,” by Jack Fritscher, which appeared in,  Special Forces: Gay Military Erotica edited by Phillip Mackenzie, Jr. (Cleis Press).
