The Bryn Kelly Scholarship for Trans Women/Trans Femme Writers at the Lambda Literary Retreat honors the life and artistic work of Bryn Kelly, a 2013 LLF Emerging Writer Workshop participant. Bryn, a much loved writer and performer, created innovative work that was smart, sharp, daring, and from the perspective of an HIV-positive trans woman. The scholarship will support one Emerging Writer Workshop participant towards tuition, room & board, and travel costs to and from the workshop.

Criteria:

  • Applicant must be accepted to the LLF Emerging Writer Workshop through the normal selection process.
  • Applicant must be a trans woman or trans feminine-identified.

Process:

  • Once participants have been selected, the LLF will ascertain which eligible candidates have applied for financial assistance.
  • LLF staff will send the profiles to Ms. Kelly’s partner, Gaines Parker, for final selection. LLF will inform the winner of their award.

Lambda Literary Foundation is accepting donations to this scholarship for the upcoming 2016 retreat. Bryn was among the first trans women to attend the retreat, and it is the dearest hope of her 2013 cohorts, LLF, and her many friends that women like her receive critical support to attend the workshop, as part of extending Bryn’s own artistic legacy. We hope you can make a donation today.

The Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices was established in 2007 and is the first of its kind ever offered to LGBTQ writers: a one-week intensive immersion in fiction, nonfiction, poetry, genre fiction and playwriting. The Retreat is an unparalleled opportunity to be mentored by the very best writers in our community, to develop one’s craft, make connections with publishing industry professionals and build a strong community of peers.
