Cannes Jury Hands Top Honor to Sex-Soaked Lesbian Epic

On May 25th, the Cannes jury, which included Hollywood heavyweights Steven Spielberg, Nicole Kidman, and Ang Lee, awarded the prestigious Palme d’Or to director Abdellatif Kechiche’s “sex-soaked, three-hour lesbian epic” Blue is the Warmest Color. The film, based on the French graphic novel Le Bleu est une couleur chaude (“blue is a warm colour”) by Julie Maroh, tells the story of teenager Adèle (Adèle Exarchopoulos) whose life is passionately reconfigured “when she meets Emma (Léa Seydoux), a blue haired young woman, who allows her to discover desire and to assert herself as a woman and an adult.”

The prestigious Palme d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival was last night awarded to a steamy three-hour movie about a lesbian love affair.
‘Blue Is the Warmest Colour’ took the prize for the best film from a jury led by Steven Spielberg and Nicole Kidman.
One scene includes a no-holds-barred twelve minute erotic sex scene between two women, played by Lea Seydoux and Adele Exarchopoulos, that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination.
Arsenal Pulp Press will be publishing the English translation of the graphic novel, on which the film is based, in October.
