Stories, novels, creative nonfiction (memoir), and prose poetry (no verse, please).
Workshop 2: Nonfiction (Essay and Cultural Journalism)

Art, literary, film or theater criticism; political essay; biographically slanted journalism (interpretive journalism only, no reportage)
Who Am I?
I am a novelist, essayist, and cultural journalist, the author of 12 books, as well as a literary translator from the French. In the U.S., my novels, memoirs and short stories have been published by Dutton, Penguin/Tarcher, Plume and Semiotext(e). I am bilingual. In 2004, I won the prestigious Prix de Flore in France for my memoir, “The Romanian: Story of an Obsession.” All of my books of short stories, novels and essays have also been published in French and several other languages.
As a cultural journalist, I have written for the New York Times Magazine, The Village Voice, The Wall Street Journal, La Nouvelle revue française, Libération, Vogue Paris, Vogue Hommes and many other English and French publications. I have translated 18 books from the French, including works by Philippe Sollers, Grégoire Bouillier, Tony Duvert, Virginie Despentes, Benoît Duteurtre, David Foenkinos, Philippe Djian and other well-known French writers.
I have taught 3 separate terms of Literature and Creative Writing at Deep Springs College and have given workshops, seminars or readings at Brown University, Evergreen State College, NYU and several other colleges and universities.
This will be the 8th session of the Creative Writing Workshop.
