The DC Center for the LGBT Community is hosting OutWrite, its second annual queer books festival, on August 3rd and 4th. The OutWrite Book Fair seeks to redress the lack of a queer bookstore in the DC area, as well as promoting local queer writers from the DC community. OutWrite will be two days full of book readings, book vendors, book discussions, poetry readings and more.

OutWrite will be held at the DC Center at 1318 U Street Northwest, Washington DC, 20009. Over 15 exhibitors will be selling their books, ranging from romance subgenres, action and adventure, sci-fi, and children’s books. Featured events include head / heart / soul, a reading by Black LGBT poets, a storytelling performance on gender, sexuality, and our everyday lives by acclaimed performer, Kimberly Dark, and a discussion on intersectional activism with author Sharon Doetsch-Kidder. Various queer writers will be reading, including Toni D. Newman, the first African-American transgender woman to publish a memoir, Brittany Fonte, and Wayne Hammond, both local authors.

OutWrite will take place from 6pm to 9pm on Friday, August 3rd, and 11am to 9pm on Saturday, August 4th. Over 1,000 new and used LGBT books will be for sale, many at only $1 each. For more information and event times, visit the OutWrite website at
