In recognition of her accomplishments and activism, Nina Revoyr will be this year’s keynote speaker at the Women for a New Los Angeles Luncheon.

The luncheon brings together more than 500 progressive women from across Southern California to discuss and explore women’s leadership. This year the theme will be women mentoring women. Previous luncheon speakers and honorees have included Jane Fonda, Arianna Huffington, Connie Rice, Ramona Ripston, Julie Su, Maria Bello and authors Lisa See, Barbara Ehrenreich and Peggy Orenstein, among others.

The Women for a New Los Angeles event is a fundraiser for LAANE, an advocacy organization whose mission is to create a new economy for all, starting right here in Los Angeles. Combining dynamic research, innovative public policy and the organizing of broad alliances, LAANE promotes a new economic approach based on good jobs, thriving communities and a healthy environment.

LAANE spearheaded the effort to pass Los Angeles’ groundbreaking living wage ordinance, which raised wages for tens of thousands of low-wage workers, as well as the EPA award-winning Clean Trucks Program, which has removed thousands of diesel-spewing trucks from the road, significantly reducing childhood asthma and other byproducts of pollution. LAANE also played a pivotal role in securing living wages, free or affordable health insurance and many other benefits for more than 3,000 workers, primarily women, at major hotels in the LAX area. LAANE has also led successful efforts to secure thousands of middle-class career opportunities in the construction industry for at-risk populations, pioneered a national model for community-friendly economic development and is working to address the issue of food deserts in South Central and East Los Angeles.
