While beach reading is usually light, easy entertainment that fades away like last weekend’s tan, writers know that anything can happen when people wind up in the water, on vacation, baking in the sun, or lost on the Jersey Shore; The backdrop for the night is the gorgeous, theatrical set for Shotgun Players’ current production, A Seagull in the Hamptons—complete with ocean, sky, the boardwalk, and lots of SAND.

This is award-winning author K.M. Soehnlein’s first and only scheduled East Bay reading of his new book Robin and Ruby that uses Salinger’s Franny and Zooey to trace the arc of a brother and sister—and their parallel love stories—over a single eventful ’80s Jersey Shore summer weekend; Joining him for the evening is a who’s who of notable emerging Bay Area authors including Joshua Mohr whose last book Some Things That Meant the World to Me was one of 0 Magazine’s top 10 reads of 2009, Elizabeth Rosner author of the acclaimed Blue Nude, along with Catherine Sharp who has a new collection entitled Ambitions Toward Love and fiction writer (Disaster Readiness) and blogger Jay Barmann
